Disability Action leads the way with new — Try Before You Buy Centre — for people with disabilities

Disability Action has joined forces with BT to become the first organisation in Northern Ireland to offer an entirely new service for people with disabilities. The first 'Try Before You Buy' centre has been established and is located at Disability Action's Headquarters in Belfast.

The centre will showcase products, specifically designed for people with disabilities, and is part of a network of more than 200 centres across the UK offering people of all age groups the chance to try out products designed to suit their own individual requirements.

Visitors will benefit from the expertise of professionals and volunteers who work in the centre and in return BT gathers feedback on what works well and what doesn't.

Disability Action is unique in its work, it is the only Northern Ireland wide pan-disability organisation working with people with various disabilities; physical, mental, sensory, learning and hidden. The relationship with BT and Disability Action has been in place for a number of years and the organisation welcomed the opportunity, when chosen, to lead the way with Northern Ireland's first 'Try Before You Buy' service.

Peter Morris, Consumer Director, BT Northern Ireland, said;

The new centre underlines BT's total commitment to providing products and services specifically tailored for people who have hearing, sight, mobility, dexterity, speech and learning difficulties. It is so important that people can try out our different products at their leisure so they don't have the disappointment of buying something that turns out to be unsuitable and then having to return it.

Monica Wilson, CEO, Disability Action said:

It is vital that people with disabilities are able to communicate effortlessly with friends and relatives and we are keen to support this BT initiative which gives people the chance to try before they buy. It is a welcome addition to the valuable services we already offer. Keeping up-to-date with new innovations from BT, means we are better able to advise our clients on how to lead more independent lives.
Many disabled people are particularly keen to find out about equipment which improves their ability to use the phone. This new opportunity for disabled people to visit Disability Action and actually try before they buy is very welcome.
