Onlive and BT Launch Revolutionary Cloud Gaming
Exclusive three months free PlayPack of more than 100 games for BT customers
22 September, 2011
Onlive and BT Launch Revolutionary Cloud Gaming
BT today announced that it will be offering its broadband customers three months free and unlimited access to a PlayPack1 of more than 100 video games to mark the launch of OnLive's revolutionary instant-play game service.
BT will be the first internet service provider in the UK to offer cloud-based gaming to its customers through its exclusive partnership with OnLive.
The OnLive® Game Service is the groundbreaking on-demand video gaming platform that delivers the latest and most advanced games instantly over a broadband connection. Users can play on their HDTV via the OnLive Game System or on virtually any PC, Mac® or tablet via a small browser download. The OnLive Game Service creates an entirely new way to play, watch, share and try premium games from the world's leading publishers.
Peter Morris, consumer director, BT Northern Ireland, said:
This is a fantastic new service for our customers in Northern Ireland. The three months free PlayPack subscription is a great offer for BT broadband customers and there are no strings attached. It's not part of a contract and we’re waiving usage allowances until the New Year. We just want to give our customers the chance to try it, and with more than 100 premium games available, choosing what to play will be the hardest part.'
'This is yet another reason for customers to choose BT for their broadband. Of course, our superfast, up to 40Mb2, BT Infinity fibre broadband, is ideal for something like OnLive gaming.
BT's exclusive three months free PlayPack subscription has more than 100 regularly updated recent, indie and classic games from more than 50 top publishers. There is a wide range of games including action adventure, first person shooter, sports and puzzle games, so there is something for everyone. Games include Batman: Arkham Asylum, Saints Row 2, Homefront (large-scale warfare multiplayer), F.E.A.R. 3 (multiplayer), Borderlands, Just Cause 2, LEGO® Batman, World of Goo, Flatout 2, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, Prince of Persia and the classic Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition.
BT customers will also get to enjoy OnLive's promotions, including their special launch offer of a first individual OnLive game for just £1, worth up to £39.993.
OnLive is the pioneer of 'cloud' gaming. Backed by high-performance, internet-based cloud game servers, the OnLive Game Service launches top-tier games in seconds that would take minutes to start on high-end consoles or PCs. Because all the games run in data centres, users can always play the highest-performance games on their OnLive Game System and even play on most low-performance computers. Customers never have to upgrade hardware. As games become more advanced, users can continue to play them on the same OnLive Game System or computer. Gamers can play using their keyboard and mouse, gamepad or touch screens depending on their preferences.
OnLive founder and CEO Steve Perlman, said:
'OnLive will utterly transform gaming in the UK. No discs, big downloads or specialised hardware are needed. OnLive gives you the latest games instantly, anytime, anywhere on HDTV, PC, Mac, as well as soon on iPad and Android tablets. It makes high performance gaming as accessible as streaming video, with unique social features, such as watching thousands of people play games live with voice chat and Facebook integration.
'OnLive is incredibly excited about its partnership with BT. In particular, the performance of OnLive over BT Infinity fibre broadband is nothing short of extraordinary. Prepare to be blown away.
The special PlayPack subscription offer is open to any BT customer, 18 years of age or over with BT home broadband who register online at www.bt.com/onlive by January 31, 2012.
