September 1st 2014

The Telecommunications and Internet Federation (TIF) today announced the appointment of BT Ireland Chief Executive Colm O'Neill as its new Chairman. TIF is the Ibec representative body for the electronic communications industry and its members include all companies making significant investments in telecommunications infrastructure in Ireland.

Upon taking up the new role, Mr O'Neill said: “Communications technology has transformed our working and social lives and is at the heart of Ireland’s innovation economy. The members of TIF are committed to ensuring that Ireland remains a globally competitive economy and this is evident in the industry’s £2.5billion investment in Ireland’s telecommunications infrastructure over the past five years.

I’m proud to represent an industry that employs 20,000 professionals, who deliver mission critical services every day. From fibre broadband rollout, to 4G capability, to data centres and cloud based services, this industry is the lynchpin that provides instant connectivity to people, services, entertainment and information on demand.

In my role as chairman of TIF I’m committed to supporting the goals we have set out to achieve as a group and creating greater awareness of the critical role that the industry plays in improving society through communications technology.”
