Tick Tock! Time is running out for students to enter the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition

Northern Ireland’s favourite illusionist encourages students to submit an entry ahead of fast approaching deadline

Top illusionist and television mentalist David Meade today joined BT in reminding schools across Northern Ireland to submit their entries for the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE), ahead of the fast approaching deadline of 29th September, 2015.

Getting involved in the BTYSTE couldn’t be easier. Students can enter either as an individual or a group, by uploading a one-page proposal outlining their idea to www.btyoungscientist.com. Entries can be made in any one of four categories: technology, social and behavioural science, biological and ecological science, or chemical, physical and mathematical science.
The renowned exhibition, now in its 52nd year is one of the largest and longest running STEM* events in the world.  As well as engaging students in the fascinating world of science and technology, the exhibition challenges students to imagine a big idea and bring it to life through research and development in a practical way, outside of the classroom.

Explaining his own personal enthusiasm for the BTYSTE, David Meade said: “As a former teacher, I understand the importance of encouraging young people to develop their imagination and an interest in STEM, and the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is the perfect platform on which to do this.

“With the deadline for entries fast approaching, I would really encourage students and teachers across Northern Ireland to showcase the amazing ideas they are capable of and submit their one page proposal by 29th September.”

Mari Cahalane, head of the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition added: “We know that students and teachers have been settling back into school over the past week and getting focused for the year ahead so now is the perfect time to put those creative minds to work and submit an entry the 2016 exhibition. Whatever your passion, be it sport, social media, animals, humans, numbers or outer space, as long an idea fits the criteria we want to see it! Entering is simple once you have the idea so I would encourage all students to get thinking now and submit their one page proposal before the 29th September.”

As well as the incentive of getting a project shortlisted and experiencing a week at the exhibition, there are over 120 teacher and pupil awards to be won, including cash prizes, international trips and the overall title of BT Young Scientist & Technologist(s) of the Year.

The 2016 exhibition will take place from 6th – 9th January, 2016 at the RDS in Dublin.
