BT Ireland says thank you as BT Ireland Shop for Change raises almost €150,000 for Irish Cancer Society and Marie Curie
Oct 18th 2016

BT Shop for Change 2016, BT Ireland’s annual charity shop takeover, has raised almost €150,000 for Irish Cancer Society and Marie Curie Northern Ireland, bringing the total funds raised over the last five years to €480,000.
Over 220 BT Ireland employees took part in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, raising cash through in-store sales, auctions, on-street performances and donated stock that will be sold in-store for weeks to come. The money raised will help both charities fund innovative cancer research projects and provide care and support for those suffering from cancer and terminal illnesses.
Paul Hughes, Irish Cancer Society Shops Manager said, “Thanks to BT Ireland employees and the public who supported us, our charity shops were brimming with quality stock and bustling with bargain hunters for the BT Shop for Change event. Between sales on the day and over 2,600 bags of stock donated to our shops, the funds will help us support those affected by cancer all over Ireland. For example, the money raised in ROI alone would fund 258 nights of nursing care to patients at the end of their cancer journey through our Night Nursing service, allowing them to be cared for in the comfort of their own home.”
Shay Walsh, Managing Director, BT Ireland added:
We want to thank the local communities for their generosity and support in making 2016 our most successful Shop for Change campaign ever. BT is committed to being a purposeful business that adds value not only to our customers, but to society as a whole. We’re incredibly proud of the energy and impact that our employees brought to the streets of Dublin and Galway through BT Shop for Change and to have contributed to Irish Cancer Society’s mission to fight cancer and improve the lives of those affected.”
BT Shop for Change 2016 is not over yet – BT employees will take over the Irish Cancer Society shop on Princess Street, Cork from 10am – 4pm on October 27. To support the campaign, the public are invited to donate their unwanted clothes, accessories, books, homeware and bric-a-brac to the shop in the coming days, and drop back on October 27 to pick up a bargain from a range of specially donated items, exclusive to BT Shop for Change.
